The area where we live in Chiba is built on land that was dredged from Tokyo Bay. Forty years ago, all of this area would have been under water – corrosive salt water to be sure. The area is criss crossed by shallow canals, just big enough for a small barge to navigate. And, it doesn’t take long for the salt water to take it’s toll on even the hardiest of craft.
