Photoshop - Creating Abstract Images from Photos

Some experiments manipulating photos using Photoshop Elements

All of the following images were created in Photoshop Elements from photographs. The basic process I used was:

crop the original image and adjust levels
create a series of three layers using the adjusted image
apply a pallette knife filter to one layer, then drastically increase the saturation and apply a Gaussian blur
apply a dry brush filter to another layer
use a third layer to create the line/sketch effect by applying a smart blur (edges only) then inverting it. To get a stronger sketch effect I applied a poster edge effect
adjust each layer so that they blend using the soft light setting
season to taste....

Photography Tools

For digital photography, we currently use and highly recommend the Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 digital camera. As a backup, and for those really hard to capture photos that it excels at, we also use a Cybershot DSC-F717 camera.

We use Adobe Photoshop Elements to process, crop, and edit our photos, and also use a few other digital photography applications that we post about from time to time.
