Very Punny Broom Joke

I happen to love puns and word play. It's one of my weaknesses. So, I'm always on the lookout for a good joke involving puns. Here's one that was sent to me this morning. It's an 8 out of 10 on the Pun Groan-o-meter:

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married.

Time for a Figure Skating Fix

Figure Skating Rocks!
Originally uploaded by SpotVH.

It's been way, way too long since we went to see a figure skating competition - last winter actually. Now that the weather is starting to turn a little cold, and we've put the first blanket on the bed, it's definitely time to think about a figure skating excursion.

My wife can enjoy watching the competitors, and I can have a blast trying to take some reasonable photos under very difficult lighting and speed conditions.

Costco Fever

I've always been skeptical about Costco in Japan. When I was living in California I would visit Costco occasionally - usually during my lunch break to wolf down a cheap hot dog and large soda.

When Costco came to Japan they built a huge store close to where I live and work, so we signed up for a members card.

Election Rally - Koizumi - September 10, 2005 - Inage Kaigan

DSC08083

Sunday, September 11th, is the election, and according to Japanese law, all political activity has to stop by 8:00 pm the night before. So, all the politicians were out trying to influence people and gather votes right up to the last minute. The LDP sponsored a rally next to Inage Kaigan train station, and because Koizumi was scheduled to appear, the turnout was absolutely huge. The number of people that came was easily in the multiple thousands.

Unbelievable

Nabisco, on their NabiscoWorld website has a game called “CornHole”. Either the developer and marketing folks grew up in the North, or they didn’t bother to take the time to check out common slang terms. In either case, the image of eating Ritz crackers while playing CornHole is totally gross. You have to wonder if it isn’t a hoax.

Editor’s note: It turns out, after further research, that ‘cornhole’ is actually a fairly popular game in parts of Ohio, Kentucky, Tennesse, and West Virginia. Cincinnati lays claim to inventing the game. In some other parts of the country the word has a slang meaning that is not repeatable in public, but you can find it on Google if you look up cornhole and slang.

Polygon Family

Ever wonder how Japanese couples settle their differences when the husband stays out drinking late at night with the boys? This Polygon Family episode isn't all that far from the truth-
