Cosplay And Gundam
We had the chance to drop in on a Comic market event held at the Makuhari Messe Convention Center just a few minutes by bicycle from where we live in Chiba, Japan.
It was a great opportunity to get more practice with our new Sony Cybershot DSC-R1. Although the shots came out well - great in fact - we did learn quite a few lessons.
The most important lesson was to tone down the flash. For many of the photos, like the one above, we used the swiveling LCD display which allowed us to position the camera down low and shoot up towards the ceiling. Normally this would have worked out well, but the R1 flash is so strong, at least on its default setting from the factory, that it easily lit up the wall and ceiling behind our subjects.
Next time we'll go a lot easier on the flash to try and narrow the depth of field. The images would look a whole lot better if the empty shipping boxes and rear wall were fuzzy rather than crystal clear.

For digital photography, we currently use and highly recommend the Sony Cybershot DSC-R1 digital camera. As a backup, and for those really hard to capture photos that it excels at, we also use a Cybershot DSC-F717 camera.
We use Adobe Photoshop Elements to process, crop, and edit our photos, and also use a few other digital photography applications that we post about from time to time.
