A reminder of the not too distant past...The area where we live in Chiba is built on land that was dredged from Tokyo Bay. Forty years ago, all of this area would have been under water – corrosive salt water to be sure. The area is criss crossed by shallow canals, just big enough for a small barge to navigate. And, it doesn’t take long for the salt water to take it’s toll on even the hardiest of craft.

It’s hard to believe that I took this photo with my cell phone camera.
