Google Custom Home Page

google personalized home pages
Google's been hinting that they would roll out services based on Google accounts for a while, and there have been clues from time to time. One of the most interesting, at least from a strategic perspective, is the ability to customize your own Google home page. And, it's already gone live.

Time for a change...

When I first started this blog, several years ago, the title ‘PDA Dreams’ seemed very relevant, and even exciting. I had a lot of passion centered around PDAs and their associated technology. And, I devoured every article and bit of information on them I could possibly find. Now I find that the situation has changed dramatically in a surprisingly short period of time.

Google's Out To Rule The World...

google desktop beta v2
... or at least the desktop. According to the writeup on their What's New in Google Desktop 2 (Beta) page, the latest release, or should I say pseudo-release since it's "Beta", includes everything including the kitchen sink. Whoever designed the page had a real sense of humor as well since it has lots of not-so-hidden references.

Billions Invested in Artificial Intelligence Research and Development

Mankind craves constant stimulation, and is willing to do almost anything to get it. We hate being bored. So it isn’t too surprising that the game and toy industry accounts for billions of dollars in annual sales. Pokemon, at the height of the character’s popularity, was responsibile for over 8 billion dollars in sales annually.

And, when you stop and analyze it, there is actually several orders of magnitude more pure computing power in a Sony PSP game console than there is in the Space Shuttle.

Of course, people are going to try to leverage the latest and greatest technology in order to make a buck or two. A recent example is the use of advanced AI techniques used as the heart of a Flash simulation of Darth Vader playing a game of 20 questions. All that technology and development, harnessed to sell more Burger King Whoppers.

How The Original Apple Logo Was Born

Sync magazine has a short article that documents a little known, but extremely important aspect of the Apple saga - how the Apple logo came to be, and why for many years it sported all the colors of the rainbow-

"There were many people who said Apple would go bankrupt if they went ahead with the logo," says Rob Janoff, the graphic designer credited with thinking up the world-famous emblem.
