Brooklyn 'Scootathon' set for November 14th

“On Saturday, November 14th, at 10 am, the Brooklyn Waldorf School (TBWS) is launching its Annual Scootathon in Prospect park, Brooklyn, at Bartel-Pritchard circle (at 15th st. and Prospect park West). Participants will be kick-scooting a 15 mile course through the park. This kick-off was organized to raise money for TBWS, and to raise awareness for alternative modes of sustainable transportation! More information”

Good bicycle manners on the train?

We seldom see cyclists with their bike on the trains here, and on the rare occasion we have run into them they have always been very polite and aware of others. Apparrently, for some unknown reason the JR train system management feels that there is a problem and is spending a lot of time and money to get it under control.

Finnish kick scooter guys are maniacs (Video)

We thought that our physical shape and endurance was improving, and that with a little more training we would be able to really cover some distance. But, after watching this video featuring some Finnish kick scooter maniacs out on a high speed, high tempo, training ride, we realized how far we have to go.

Honda's U3-X one wheeled human transporter prototype, kind of a unicycle Segway, has triggered tremendous interest world-wide, and is already spawning lots of clone development projects. Even our friends over at MegWin are trying to get into the act.

Checking out the Super Potato shop for a massive dose of retro Nintendo games and accessories. If it was made by Nintendo, or for any of the old Nintendo game systems, they have it, for sure!

Fire in the pole! Fire in the pole!

Watched the local fire department put out an electric pole fire on the way home. Using the Xootr was great. I never would have noticed something like this if I was on the bus, or driving a car.

The Xootr Has Two Brakes

The Xootr front brake pad looks small but certainly gets the job done. It's big enough to gently slow the scooter down without suddenly grabbing or throwing things out of balance.

Beginners are tempted to rely on the front brake by itself, and sometimes don't even realize that the Xootr also has a very effective rear brake that's foot operated.

It takes a bit of practice, but the results are well worth the effort.

Life is for living

Keiichi Iwasaki realized how short life is, and didn’t want to waste any of it. So, at the age of 28 he quit his job and started cycling with less than USD$2 in his pocket.

Eight years and five bicycles later, Keiichi has covered over 29,000 miles, cycled through 37 countries, been robbed by pirates, arrested, bitten by a rabid dog, climbed Mount Everest, and has never been bored. He has no bank account or credit cards, and supports himself along the way as a busker (street performer).

We’re big iPhone addicts, and when something comes up that combines the iPhone with one of our other addictions – like cycling or foot biking – then it immediately grabs our attention.

The iPhone ARider by UEI/ZeptoTools isn’t a product… at least not yet, but we can hardly wait until it hits the market. In fact, we’d love to do some beta-testing, or product reviews (hint, hint).

Xootr Rules!!!

We haven't given up on our footbike and mountain bike, but recently our Xootr has been putting on the vast majority of our mileage and helping us take off the pounds. It's perfect to take on the train into the city, then scoot around.

At this rate we're going to have to put a spare set of wheels, or two, on order, especially since they have to ship from the US.
